flaglady15 I only just found this on Sky Cinema (download) about two weeks ago and I've already watched it 10 times! I think it's absolutely charming and heart warming. Not only that but the actions and reactions of all the little creatures, especially Bambi, were so beautifully observed and drawn from real life, I was quite entranced. The entire story is also well drawn and I love how it picks up from the moment Bambi is calling for his lost mother and his father appears. So other than the obvious bits of anthropomorphism, which can be forgiven, little Bambi came alive again in all his unique charm and cuteness! Well done Disney and all involved. A great job well done.
ravsten428 Disney has been throwing sequel after sequel in our face. While most of them are duds, this one, which I consider more of a middle point of the original, is a great story.Bambi 2 has some great elements to it. The animation is actually very good especially considering it went straight to video. The story is simple enough to follow. We pick up where Bambi's mother is killed and his father rears him. The Prince of the Forest believes that a dad can't raise a fawn alone, so he tries to find a new doe to raise Bambi. All the lovable characters from the first film are here. Flower, Thumper, and of course Bambi's love interest, Faline. We also get introduced to a few new characters such as the groundhog and the porcupine. These two are merely comic relief and don't provide much to the plot. The bit with the porcupine though is rather funny.Bambi also has to deal with growing pains and his future rival Ronno. Ronno comes off as a major jerk in the movie and it suits his personality quite well.I guess my only problem with the film is that Bambi seems a little out of place. He's told to run by his father when he's confronted by the hounds yet he's frozen with fear. If Bambi was told to run by his mother then wouldn't he already know this instinct? Another thing that bothers me, and this was prevalent in the first film, is that the elements seem out of place. In the first film Bambi skips from his mother's death to spring. By this time Bambi is a full grown deer. I believe a year would have had to go by before he reached adulthood. In this film winter jumps into spring and he is still a young doe just starting to reach a starting point into adulthood. Those are the only things that bug me about the films, other than that the original and the mid-quell are great classics in my library.
animatorofanimations After watching this film, here are some of my opinions. The good parts of the film: I personally think the animation is fantastic, especially the backgrounds. It was nice to see what happened after Bambi's mother got killed, it fills in gaps that were left behind. Some scenes were nice and sweet, and it shown a nice father and son relationship. The flaws of the film: Of course, the animals started singing cheesy, stupid pop songs that weren't needed, and some scenes had toilet humor. The fawns, and other animals, seem rather violent now, and not just violent, they seemed to argue a lot, and threatened each other, for example, Bambi Arguing with his dad, him fighting another fawn. The story was rather bland, and the ending was not necessary, we all know he was going to live. All in all, this film is okay, it's close to the bad range, but it isn't the worse sequel. Some scenes and animals didn't need to be added to the movie, and the story could have been much better. 5/10
muchroom The animation was the good part, and the ONLY good part. See, Disney has lost its charm by this point (it's lost it for years--at least since the 70's, when the films became more savvy than charming) and they were trying to necromance a charming movie. But you can't slap savvy on top of charming. It just doesn't work. Instead of the atmospheric silence of the original film, we have hideous pop songs slapped in when the characters aren't yapping. Thumper's siblings are inexplicably turned into very annoying little sisters (Hint to Disney writers: Having screechy characters yell out "big bwother!" isn't cute). Faline and Bambi are suddenly in looooove with each other, ignoring the fact that they'd still be in the cootie phase at that point in time if you paid any attention to the original film.In other words, fine, Disney can be savvy or hip, whatever. Just don't try to wreck a charming classic with it. Make a whole new film with new characters and release your animators on that. They deserve better.
