But it's such a lovely movie. I went into it because I saw a video that was just Malhari and I thought the dancing, costumes and set was stunning in that scene, so I wanted to watch the entire movie.
There were only about 4 dance sets in it? And Malhari was far and above the best. I really was hoping for more because the choreography was so great, but I still found myself engrossed in the movie despite that. The story is objectively ridiculous and ignores a lot of socio-cultural issues of the time in favor of keeping the questionable romance in the limelight, but you don't go into Bollywood for that kind of critique. It's a fun story told in a fun and visually stunning manner, with a great leading cast, and if you just suspend disbelief for what, 3 hours? Then you'll have a great time. So yeah, I wish there were more music numbers, but the soundtrack was still great even in the background and I'm really glad I watched it. (I enjoyed it like it was worth more stars, but I rate movies objectively, and there were a lot of flaws that I could easily ignore but still make me unable to rate it up there with the best of the best. )

This Indian film is one of the most expensive ever to be made in Bollywood but it has proved to be one of the highest-grossing works in the sub-continent's movie market. Like any big Bollywood movie, there are song and dance routines (five of them), but there are also lavish sets and costumes and excellent cinematography in a visually stunning work that tells a historic story with contemporary relevance. Set in 18th century Hindustan, it narrates the ultimately tragic love between the Maratha military leader Baji Rao I (the good-looking star Ranveer Singh) and the Muslim princess Mastani who became his second wife (the beautiful model and actress Deepika Padukone). This is not a easy film to view if one is not a Hindi speakers, since the English sub-titles are often hard to read against a light background and the film runs to 2 hours 38 minutes (when shown in the cinema, there is an intermission), but it is definitely worth the effort and a triumph for Sanjay Leela Bhansali who co-wrote the script, composed the music, co-produced and directed.

Bajirao Mastani is a 2015 Indian epic historical romance film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who also composed the music of the film.Ranveer Singh as Bajirao was brilliant. He is a good actor and he should choose more roles like this.Deepika was good but I liked Priyanka's acting more.As expected from a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie,Costumes, sets and cinematography were magnificent. Movie mainly focuses on human relations.Music and choreography is nice. But there is nothing new in the script as movie shows us simple love story drama that we have seen in many movies.,just the way of showing it was different as the movie is about early 18th century. This film won nine Filmfare Awards including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress for Priyanka Chopra.

The DVD of Bajirao Mastani released last week and we watched it last night expecting to be in for a treat after all the awards this film has garnered.45 minutes into the movie and I was wondering what all the hype was about! The story is weak and picks up only after the interval. Except for Priyanka Chopra who was excellent in her role, there is nothing brilliant about the acting as far as the remaining cast is concerned. Both Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh sizzled in Bhansali's Ram Leela but there was nothing exceptional about their acting in Bajirao Mastani. One cant help the comparison with Ram Leela which had a much more interesting script, better acting and overall was a better film than Bajirao Mastani. The music and dance are of course very good, no doubt about that. What I can not figure out is how Bajirao Mastani picked up so many awards? I can think of at least 5 movies released in the same year which were definitely better. Ranveer Singh did a far better job in Dil Dhadakne Do, as did Deepika in Piku. Bajrangi Bhaijaan was far superior overall.Bajirao Mastani is certainly watchable as "time pass" but it is not a brilliant movie by any stretch of the imagination.
