mickeyandme20042000 The only 2 scenes I actually like in this weird production are Anne and Gil's wedding reception and when they are reunited at the end of the war. Even those are somewhat ruined. The tent falls on their wedding reception and the preacher was half drunk. And during their reunion that jerk Jack Garrison has to walk up looking all butt-hurt jealous. This movie does not follow the novels at all. In the books they were married in 1890 and it was their 3 sons who went off to war (one of their sons was killed in the war).
Kris Regbot Although normally I get upset when movie-makers deviate from a well-known story I have read, I understand that for legal reasons and timing -- if the actors had gotten much older there would have been no point -- he needed a script. This one gave them an opportunity to pursue themes of the era and explore how Anne and Gilbert could have responded to them: a woman writer, the glass ceiling and other gender role situations, WWI with its patriotism, espionage and tragedy, medical ethics in a teaching hospital and in war, sucking up to donors because public money isn't there... come to think of it, those are themes of today too, which is why I liked the movie. (The LM Montgomery books of Anne as an adult were disappointing to me in the lack of serious themes.) The war scenes in the movie were realistic and tension-filled but I endured them better than I do many war movies. I loved seeing how Anne could grow up and deal with more serious challenges, and I loved Megan Follows' performance. She was able to portray more depth of character and variety of emotion than the earlier movies required. The only thing I didn't like is, the "chaos of war" scenes went on longer than necessary.
Carol Barone If you don't want to lose the magic feeling and the original meaning of Anne of Green Gables, do not watch this terrible "Continuing History". Anne is not the same, she lost her personality, her ideals, her brightness, she is a common and weak woman now; the story does not match with the first two films. If you liked the first two films, you are a person with dreams and optimism, so you will certainly HATE the third one. I turned sad and deeply disappointed after seeing it. Actually I saw the first 30 minutes and I got so shocked that I saw the ending and some parts of the second episode, instead of watching everything, and decided to give up the whole movie: it was really bad.
vicky-wiseman Such a shame that this one was ever made. So bad in so many ways. Anne in this film bears no resemblance to the Anne in the previous two films and has no connection at all to the Anne of the books - which Anne of Green Gables story is this film supposed to be continuing? There is a continuing story to Anne of Green Gables: L M Montgomery wrote 8 books in the Anne series, why were these stories not adapted for film? I was so pleased when I found that this film had been made and so disappointed when I watched it. The first two DVDs are practically worn out with re-watching, this one I watched once and then sold on ebay. Many apologies to the poor soul who bought it off me.
