Sherazade Bollywood movies never seem to get the New York aesthetic right and as resident Newyorker, it's offensive to see each time. When will they learn that you can't walk across a south street seaport street onto a street in Queens? An NYPD officer/coast guard officer will never drive up to you and warn you to get off a bridge after a failed suicide attempt. The water in the East/Hudson River is neither clear nor clean. If you enter either river on January 1st (the height of a brutal NY winter) and do not exit within the five minutes, you're as good as dead. I mean, I could go on but let's get past that. The story is very simple, boy meets girl when boy has reached a breaking point in his life and vice versa. After a failed dual suicide attempt, the both decide to live it up for twenty days after which they'll try again to commit suicide. If you take away the whole issue of suicide, this movie is essentially a more dramatic version of the Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor film 'Jab we met'. Ranbir Kapoor (Akash) continues to shine as a fantastic actor among his mediocre peers and his strong presence as a leading man forces the normally lukewarm Priyanka Chopra (Kiara) to step out of her comfort zone. Their chemistry is undeniable. Blink and you'll miss Zayed Khan in a flashback cameo role. It was an okay watch, lots of songs and strong performance by Ranbir Kapoor. Kiara's apartment in NYC (also Hilary Swank's character's apartment in 'The Resident') as well as her car nicknamed 'blush' deserve special props as well-used props.
hsn_zahid I never write reviews... in fact this is my first review. Hell! I signed up to write a review specially for this movie after reading all the other reviews.. Because this is a wonderful wonderful movie... I was too much bored and needed something to take me away from whatever's consuming my mind and I was totally absolutely blown away by this movie. It was a very unique story and I enjoyed my time thoroughly..Now I have read other reviews here about the story being similar to jab we met and etc. I think you don't need to re-invent the wheel to make a machine..!. I have seen jab we met and not for a sec i had the dejavu... It has its own story and its brilliantly presented. A perfect movie!
CupcakeLovesMuffin Before I start reviewing this movie, let me just say that I took two points off because- one for the lame jokes or well attempts at jokes, and another for the predictability of the movie.Now. Anjaana Anjaani. First look at the trailer or sneak peek and honestly, you don't really know what to expect from the movie. But you do know that it will be good because one- it looks DIFFERENT (something which Bollywood movies sometimes cannot do) two-the star cast looks good, and three- the director. Sajid Nadiadwala has made good movies in the past, so one expects this one to be successful too.So the movie begins with us seeing Akash (Ranbir Kapoor) walking to his suicide point, a bridge in NYC. We then find out the reason of him wanting to suicide is because he is the cause of the entire stock market crashing. As he is about to jump off the bridge, enter Kiara (Priyanka Chopra) who is drunk at the time and tells him not to hesitate and just do it. After many interrupted attempts by Akash, the coast guard catches them and tells them to get off the bridge. After they do so, Akash jumps in front of a car, and Kiara attempts again but instead, falls ON the actual bridge.Later, after meeting at the same hospital, they decide to attempt again, but together, at Kiara's house. After more than two or three MORE failed attempts, Kiara thinks that maybe they have something to complete in life so they decide to suicide on New Year's Eve at midnight. This is what leads up to the actual story. Up until this point, it is quite interesting and cute to watch. Then, the dramatic points get a bit annoying after a while, mixed in with the flashbacks, songs one after another, gets a bit annoying. Overall, it is a very good movie, but not as good as one expects. Ranbir Kapoor is an amazing actor and he has proved it mainly with this movie. Note the scene in the hotel room- the expressions are priceless. Not singling out Priyanka Chopra. You actually start to believe she is Kiara after one point. Note the sequence in the car when she breaks down and cuts her hair. It is extremely moving.Recommended if you would like a bit of a change, but maybe wait till it comes out on DVD.
flyingsaucer I was eagerly awaiting this movie release, and once in movie hall I started eagerly looking at my watch at regular time intervals. Long long ago, when I first heard the likes of songs like 'Hairat' and 'Tujhe Bula Diya' etc, I was totally blown away and I decided to watch the movie. Tujhe Bhula Diya is my favorite Hindi song now.Why was the movie so slow? Well, even the comedy moments were dragging and movie lacked tempo all through. It was not a bad movie, it was not good either. And considering that Ranbir was one of my favorites among the current generation actors, it was a total disappointment. Will you believe me when I say that the lead pair of this movie always roam around in Designer clothes. Even when in Hospital they wear designer surgical wear or something. They try to commit suicide in designer clothes. Well, their clothes are always new, and well they must be living in world of luxury where anyone who wears non-designer cloths is an outcast.Well, Ranbir should have chosen a better movie. And please don't try to emulate Yash Raj. Yash Raj is 90's thing, now it is out of trend. Well, it was a documentary of two people trying to commit suicide, wasn't it?
