DuskShadow I grew up in the late 80s and early 90's, and if any of you remember clearly, you would agree that them thar years were the very best in human history. You could argue with me if it were possible here, but I would slam you with tons of evidence that would prove me correct. However its ironic that for such an interesting time to be alive, with the emergence of technologies and entertainment never be fore seen, that the era also gave way to vast experimentation therefore. In the case of this, the Bevenfield studio version of the tale of Aladdin, its terribly so.It is admittedly not the worst animation I have seen in my lifetime, and speaking in terms of my experience with such mediums as Japanese anime alone, I can assure you that I have an unnaturally vast amount of time logged watching such things lol.The movie sadly is still a testament to bad dubbing and animation practices evidence of not only poor and seemingly non existing budgeting, but lackluster experience with the fields of story telling through animation in general. At the very least the story got most of the actual facts from the arabian nights/ 1001 nights ( of Sharazad) original version correct; the story takes place in China, and a wandering conjurer seeks a hidden labyrinth full of jeweled walls and treasure rooms, simply for an powerful artifact that imprisons an ancient Djinni. Anyways its humorous if you have an hour or two to kill and want something to laugh at with friends over some drinks or what ever floats your boat, aside from mocking things :P . It was a part of my childhood, and I have funny fond nostalgic memories of it. Give it a shot.BUT HAVE A DRINK LOL
erikals Awful, awful movie. Bought the VHS release for 50c at a thrift shop some years ago and was damned glad to get rid of it for $2. Worst animated film I have seen. The animators were quite obviously trying to save money so they took any shortcuts they could. The actors must have been paid more than the animation budget to voice this awful parody of Aladdin. A good movie to make MST3K-style commentary about on a rainy day.The production values on this also remind me of any low budget animation I've seen. The sound quality is also poor, and it is very difficult to pick up on which character is voiced by which actor/actress, even though most of us may have seen some of their other work. The idea is there, but not as well executed as you may think. Final Score: 1/10.
martinhotchkiss This is without a shadow of a doubt the worst film I have ever had to sit through. Anybody connected with the creation of this film must look on it with shame.I can't understand how some very well known and respected actors like Derek Jacobi and Penelope Keith managed to get themselves involved in such a worthless piece of junk. All the other voice actors just drone on in a monotone. The dialogue is waffly and the animation jerky. It's clear that most of the animation was done before recording the dialogue. For the most part the lip movements and dialogue don't match and when the voice actors do try to match up with the animation their...voices become...so silted that....you break down...in tears...just praying for them to .....finish.If you are ever tempted to watch this film please just spend 74 minutes poking yourself with a sharp stick instead. You will thank me for it.
reverent-1 I actually got this on VHS when I was a kid sometime after the movie Aladdin (Disney version) hit theaters. My grandma, being the sweet but confused woman she is, got this for me and I never had the heart to tell her this was one of the worst films I have ever seen. The voice acting is terrible, the lip moments don't sync with what is being said, its very obvious that the animators are under paid due to lack of graphical detail and constant reuse of the same back grounds, the music is cheesy and hard to sit through without wanting to shove something sharp into your ear drums, and for some reason I can't explain, the genie is an inner city basketball player, complete with sneakers. On top of everything else, watching the movie again, it has this creepy, almost sexual undertone to it that leaves a bad taste in the back of your mouth.Get this and watch it only if you are a fan of terrible movies. Otherwise, just let it sink into obscurity where it belongs.
