I watched because it featured Arnold Schwarzenegger and I wasn't disappointed he was a likable character and someone you cared about and the film portrayed grief in a realistic an poignant. I was surprised by his encounter both times in the end.
I think it's good because grief is a taboo subject and people try to avoid it if they can. This is a good and thoughtful movie. I liked it and in especially liked Arnold.

I normally don't write reviews unless I see something so woefully under-rated and I loved it or conversely something over-rated and I absolutely hate it. I thought this movie was possibly Schwarzenegger's best acting performance, which many other reviewers have commented on. I always prefer plots based on real life events, as this one was, that deal with real life situations. This tragedy was interesting to watch, well played by the cast and I would recommend it to anyone.

This movie is sad both in what it tries to depict, a man who loses his family in a plane crash and the plot itself. Arnold needs to stick to making sci fi movies because he really is not a dramatic actor. This story line is full of holes and you can just about figure out what the next dialog will be. Watch something else.

Aftermath: Directed by Elliot Lester and written by Javier GullonArnold Schwarzanegger tries drama for a second time and it flops horribly. The first time he did it was in the horror drama Maggie which was a fine film but it was a movie really carried by Abigail Breslin rather than Arnold. I can appreciate what he is trying to do with his career. I appreciate and respect it but he simply can not play these parts. This character needed someone who could portray inner turmoil and watch them slide down into despair over the loss of their family and the people in charge doing very little about it. It does not do this. It jumps all over the place giving no idea to a sense of time or location. What they claim takes place in one year feels more like five. It has no clear progression character wise and it makes things hard to follow. With that being said after the initial plane crash and the ending it was all just filler from a writer and director with no interesting idea how to get to this end result that they clearly want so much. You have an idea where this story line is going and when it finally agonizingly arrives at it's natural and inevitable conclusion, something feels not quite right. You should be horrified by everything that led to this moment but instead you're a bit happy that the movie is nearing its conclusion and you can go on about your day. I shouldn't feel that way about this story. I should be drawn in and at the edge of my seat, gripped with an emotional stone in my gut. Nope, nothing like that. This is the thing that makes me angry about this film. It had such potential. There is a morsel of a fascinating story here if explored in the right way with even these actors would have been great and the fact that it was a snooze is infuriating. I give this movie a D. Skip at all costs.
