dukeakasmudge ***Spoilers Ahead*** Abandoned Dead started off GREAT & had my full attention. It was GOOD & CREEPY.The long, dark hallway, the hospital equipment moving by itself, the stuffed doll come to life, the creepy caretaker, somebody or something calling out the security guards name, etc, etc, etc. Even the pizza guy was a creep.I was on the edge of my seat until the scene where the security guard went into the room that had the corpse laying there, looking like she once was wearing a sleeping mask that somebody used as a stencil, cut around it & removed the skin. After this, I got a feeling the movie was going downhill & it did.It took a straight nosedive from there. It's like somebody hit a switch & it went from GREAT to garbage, it went from being a Horror flick to....... I don't even know what to call it.If they would've kept the story going about the creeped out security guard rather than switching to a hypnotized mental patient, Abandoned Dead would've been perfect.Another thing I really liked about the movie was that it was set in an addiction clinic (1st time I've ever seen that) Every movie I've seen where a security guard is watching over a building overnight, it's set in a mental hospital, hospital or a huge building.Maybe that's what made it so scary as well, it wasn't set in a HUGE building.Abandoned Dead started off with GREAT potential. The 1st half was awesome but the 2nd half completely falls apart so I wouldn't recommend anybody go see it unless you want to be disappointed like I was (HUGE, HUGE, HUGE disappointment) 1 star just for the 1st half of the movie
Alyssa Jordan Eckenroth "Abandoned Dead" is a movie about a security guard who takes the night shift at an addiction center. It is a psychological thriller that is about more than what it seems to be and had a real M. Night Shyamalan feel in almost every scene. The film itself isn't too scary but certain scenes might be triggering to some people. It also wasn't too gory but, like I said, some scenes might be triggering to some people. Rachel Burke, played by Sarah Nicklin, is a security guard who never takes the night shift due to a secret that you will later find out near the end of the film. She gets roped into taking the night shift by her boss because no one else was able to take the job. She starts out doing her job like any normal shift but begins to realize that there is more to it than meets the eye. I absolutely loved the actress portraying this role. She did an excellent job and is a very attractive woman. I think she is the only reason this movie did decently well according to most people. This movie isn't a very long film but it starts to feel that way after awhile. It is intense and will have you on the edge of your seat wondering what that surprise ending will be and what else could possibly happen to the main character. There was one scene that completely freaked me out but only because I have a fear of dolls coming to life and doing creepy things to people. It could have been better but I really did enjoy this movie.
Saiful Saif If you are not too cynical with every little detail, you will realize Mark Curran's Abandoned Dead is actually an overall decent work. To comment without spoiler, I must say the plot is overall simple. A very sacrificing and responsible police officer Rachel Burke is positioned as a guard in an inner-city rehab center. But things do not go as they are supposed to and the watch turns into a sinister end.The film was good enough to keep me terrified for a good extent of time. The main relief was that its simple and beautiful in its simplicity. Some horror films are all just sound manipulations. Abandoned Dead didn't betray me in this way. This is not all. The most amazing thing is how it switches the whole category of this film switches at the end. The whole plot takes a shutter-island like twist and the semi-zombie abandoned-house film turns into a psychological thriller. Adding more information will destroy your pleasure of watching it.Well, it is definitely not a flawless work, I must say. In some of the scenes, the dialogues sounded a little forced and speedy to me. The use of full healthy sentences are not the usual way people talk. Most of the time, we use fragment expressions. Another thing is some horror clichés, doors shutting down, and furniture moving on their own like stuff. Maybe, we've made so many horror films already that they keep coming back.To conclude, I want to say that I myself was a cynical at first before I started working on my first film project. I started to realize that its not easy to get your things together as you make and learn at the same. People make watchable videos in their first try. Compared to that, I must say Curran scored and he scored very well.
Qazi Jamal Its been a good movie till the very end and has a twist in the end but i wont spoil it for you as its worth the watch. To start with, the camera work has been superb and the lightening has been kept low intentionally to give it the cold horror movie feel. The camera angles have been brilliantly worked and the camera's just didn't stick to a single view for long. The actors have done justice to their roles and their expressions were in accord with the scenes and didn't go flat at any time.As far as the story goes, it starts off with a tiring guard(damn! she's hot) returning from work when she is asked for an extra shift in may-field addiction clinic. She is not alone in there as paranormal disturbances begin to manifest themselves and keeping her psychological condition in view, she is surely in for some hard time. The story seems a good base for a horror movie and haven't been stretched a lot to fill in the time. This movie is a brilliant motivation and inspiration for upcoming producers and actors to watch and learn the different methods to keep the movie lively and moving at a good pace. Also this movie is a better example of how to keep up the standard while keeping the budget in view,as its an exceptional effort for being a low budget movie.I'll recommend this one!!
