Synopsis

MARTHA EVANS has been abandoned by her ne'er-do-well husband, who took all their cash and left her homeless and virtually destitute with her two daughters and stepson. Martha leaves town in hopes of finding a job and a place to stay, she finally finds a job at a sleepy rural diner, formerly famous for its home-made root beer. But with her car broken down and the bills piling up, it looks like it's going to be a bleak Christmas for the Evans family. However, there are warm hearts working behind the scenes that ultimately make this the happiest holiday of Martha's life -- a real answer to her prayers

jdandtex-338-717921 I have watched this movie every Christmas since it was first on in 2011. In fact, I'm watching it now.I have a fond memory of this movie because I watched it the first year that it was on with my mom. That was 6 years ago. My mom passed away in December 2015. So, it reminds me of us sitting in her living room watching it. Mom thought that it was a good old fashioned sentimental movie that did make our eyes a little misty. I remember her saying that Kristy Swenson was a pretty girl. Mom was 91 at the time, so Kristy was a girl to her. Mom had some tough times too and she related to her character.I like it because of the same reasons. It is about kindness to people struggling, but trying to improve their situation and hope that things will get better. I thought that the acting was realistic. Kristy was great, Edward Hermann gave a good performance, as usual. Page Petrucka who plays Lola is a hoot and a half. The only thing, and it's minor, the time line of the story is a bit rushed. But, they had to fit a lot of story in less than 2 hours. If you like old fashioned, sentimental Christmas fare, this is for you.
Raymond Rodgers This television film shows that all of us need help at one time in our lives. It also shows that "It Does Take a Village". In this film Martha's no good husband, Cal (Bart Johnson), has left her for the last time, emptying her bank account and disappearing without a word. Hopeless, Martha takes to the road and winds up in a motel broke & homeless with 3 kids. This film sounds like it is a downer but in reality it is a great film to watch. This is a film about how all of us can help anyone at anytime. Small things you think you did can make a huge impact on people. This film is not far fetched. It is not just people in small towns in the United States that are like this. However in small towns word does get around fast when someone needs any type of help!
mraymond-91023 A Christmas Wish is an above average Hallmark movie, because a little girl, Mel Evans, (Kirstin Dorn), tells the story of the first Christmas to her little sister and step brother. The movie centers around their mom and them after the unfaithful, mean father abandons them just a short time before Christmas. He runs off with most of their money and leaves the mother in a very poor financial and emotional state. The mom, Martha Evans, (Kristy Swanson), packs their old car and takes the children on the road to find a new place to live, while she also looks for employment to keep them fed.Martha begs a restaurant owner for work. The lady owner, Trudy Willis, (Tess Harper), has a struggling business, but she has compassion for the hurting family and gives Martha employment. The mom and three children have to stay in a budget motel, until money can be earned for a permanent place to live. (All kinds of crazy things happen after this!) This is a sweet movie and the other two children, little Lilee Evans, (Lilee Clyde) and Miles Evans, (Kevin Herring III), a stuttering boy, play their roles very well. A handsome policeman, Joe Hopkins, (KC Wilson Clyde), rescues them, more then once! I won't tell you all of this story....There are some very scary, tearful moments, but Martha prays to God, and the Lord blesses them beyond her expectations! God uses the loving, generous townspeople and sweet Joe Hopkins! This is definitely a wonderful Christmas movie for all ages and I hope that you buy this DVD.The reason that I did not give it a "10" rating is because I like to see someone pray to receive and know Jesus, as his, or her Lord and Savior in a movie! In closing, I want to ask Craig Clyde to make future Christian themed movies that show this. Also, please make more movies that can are non-rated or G ones. "G" means "general audience", not for just children! I am 65 years old and my sons are 36 and 39 year old men. We value and only watch movies that are wholesome and moral. Merry Christmas, and may God bless us, everyone!
emaureen The drama rose above the clichés because of excellent performances all around, especially by Kristy Swanson. There was enough material, and enough characters (mostly endearing), for a regular TV series spanning a year. This single mom had a TERRIBLE two weeks. My only regret was the inevitability of everything winding up in a hurry.I got a laugh from the review saying that at 42, Swanson was too old to play the part of someone who should be around 30. For this role, you need someone who might be thirty but who shows the prematurely ageing effects of too much worry and too many sleepless nights. I thought she was perfect. Lots of good characters, so this Hallmark Christmas movie is recommended. However, I'd steer clear of the menu at the diner, far too much gravy.
