This is a real good recount of the events of the Iranian Embassy siege. The was not any Hollywood dramatics just a fair portrayal. It was an example of Murphy's Law ie don't fu*k with Murphy. Without doubt the SAS are not just the best of British, but the best of the best.

This film tries to build tension but fails. The hostage that gets killed half way is seen to be dragged onto a stretcher and blanketed but can be seen as a legless prop!? The jokey banter with the reporters almost makes the film tilt into some light hearted comedy. This really is a serious situation that didn't need this kind of humour if you wanted to maintain a tense atmosphere.
The biggest disappointment is the siege itself. One SAS soldier dangles and fumbles as he's stuck on his zip rope. After what feels like a good 5mins of the film cutting back and forth to other events, a soldier on the roof eventually cuts him loose!? Surely he could have cut himself free in a matter of seconds as part of his elite training? But no we are served this fumbling mess which really drags the pace of the siege into an amateurish halt. This isn't really a thing when you see the real footage. A poor attempt at tension building which really didn't work and made the long build up even more pointless.
The moment a terrorist is identified trying to escape with civilians on the stairs was resolved with an arrest and not a point blank shooting with an mp5. It's a watchable film and sets up 1980 believably enough. But what this film should have had is sadly lacking due to shoddy directing. It prefers to take you on a fumbling trip of nostalgia and sentimental after thoughts rather than elevating pace, tension and fluid action it was so gasping for.

The movie is about a snowboarder getting lost in the mountains and the flash backs he sees before the end.Firstly although I like to see a happy ending, it's also difficult to root for this character for being so stupid. For example, you would turn off your cellphone if there's no signal to preserve battery so you can try elsewhere. But he didn't.You would also write large letters in the snow so that rescue helicopters can see them. He didn't. You would also stay in an open area so that you're easier to see. He runs around in the trees.I don't understand how the radio trick works. It's true radio receivers emits a weak signal, but for the rescue team to catch it, they have to be scanning the entire frequency spectrum, since they don't know what signal would be transmitted. No only that, they have to have multiple antennas in order to triangulate the location of the signal. And, how many snowboarders carry an AM/FM radio? I highly doubt the rescue team has this kind of setup. This makes me think this part of the movie is made-up. Possibly other parts are too. When they found the snowboarders, they didn't give him water or food. That's just cruel. And other than not dying, what did he do that is so inspiring?

I was somehow shocked when I saw the ratings this movie got. Sure, this movie will not win big awards, or anything like that. But I actually truly enjoyed this picture, as an interesting movie about a historical fact that I didn't really know about due to my young age.The movie doesn't lose time on futile details. It's an honest depiction of what happened over those six days. It starts immediately with the hostage. The movie feels genuine, and not meant as a brutal action movie. Keeping details true to the facts is of course a good thing. But somewhere on the line, they forgot about character development. There were some key characters, but without being really key characters. You could feel they were somehow important to the story, but you never really got a back story on them. The best example is the woman of the BBC. I didn't grew up in the UK, so I never heard of her. After the movie ended, they explained who she was. I think they could have done a lot more with the characters. You just didn't feel an attachment to any of the characters. Same with the terrorists and the negotiator. To be fair, it's not easy to do all this in just 1 hour and half. I genuine feel this movie needed some more screen time. If you enjoy movies based on true stories or historical events, you won't be disappointed.
